Accelerating AI Without Losing Control

The rapid adoption of AI is creating new opportunities for organisations, but it is also introducing new challenges around governance, security, and accountability.
This was the focus of a recent executive roundtable that brought together senior security and technology leaders to discuss one of the defining questions of the AI era: how do organisations accelerate innovation without losing control?
A recurring theme throughout the discussion was the growth of digital identities across the enterprise, particularly non-human identities (NHIs). As AI agents, machine accounts, and automated processes become more embedded within business operations, leaders are facing increasingly complex questions around access, ownership, and accountability.
The conversation highlighted a significant shift in how organisations think about security. The challenge is no longer simply understanding who has access to critical systems and data. Increasingly, organisations must understand what has access, why that access exists, and how it is governed.
One of the strongest messages from the event was that governance cannot be treated as an afterthought. Organisations that successfully scale AI initiatives are those that build visibility, control, and trust into their foundations from the outset. Effective identity governance, access management, and cybersecurity strategies are becoming critical enablers of successful AI transformation.
The discussion also reinforced the importance of executive engagement. As AI adoption continues to grow, responsibility for governance extends beyond IT and security teams. Effective oversight requires collaboration across the C-level, bringing together technology, security, risk, operational, and business leaders to ensure AI innovation is aligned with organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.
As with many of our thought leadership discussions, the key takeaway was clear: AI may transform the enterprise, but strong governance is what enables organisations to innovate securely, manage risk effectively, and realise long-term business value.
